“I need a new design” contest – Enter Now

July 20, 2007 by Tricia

Are you tired of the look of your web site? Ready for a change?

Why not enter the “I need a new design” contest that’s being held by lifeBLUE Media.

LifeBLUE specializes in web design, graphic design, SEO, Internet marketing, application development, and web hosting. Visit the site and take a look at their portfolio. They are featuring some very nice web designs that they’ve done for past clients. You’ll be in good hands if you win the contest.

It’s easy to enter the I need a new design contest. Simply visit the LifeBlUE.com website and fill out the contest entry form. Unfortunately this contest is only open to US residents. Otherwise I’d probably enter this plain Jane site myself.

Once you enter the contest you can tell your friends, family and site visitors about the contest and ask them to vote for your site. As you’ll see by visiting the contest link above the site that’s in the lead is shown as a larger image in the collage of sites that have entered.

designcontest.jpg

The contest began and July 9th and submissions and votes will be collected until August 8th, 2007. There’s still plenty of time to take the lead and win a professionally designed web design.

The winner will receive a custom design that will be in both graphical format as well as html format. The design will be created by LifeBLUE’s experienced design team.

The winner will of course have the ability to provide feedback on the design and information about the goal and direction of the site so that the team will be able to create a suitable design that will take your site well into the future.

There are actually two ways to win this contest as two winners will be selected.

One way is to simply submit your site as described above and then to garner votes. The person who has the most votes, and likely the worst current design as determined by their voting friends, family and site visitors will win a free web design.

The second way to enter this contest is to enter the random draw. Write up a blog post and use the following anchor text to link to the main index page of LifeBLUE Media:

Link url – http://www.lifeblue.com/web_design_contest/

Text: web design, web designers, website design, web design company

I presume that the people at LifeBLUE will be keeping track of incoming links with any of those link phrases and that they will add those sites to the random draw.

Why are you still here?

Get going! Enter the contest! A free web design would be fantastic wouldn’t it?

What a difference in mortgage rates!

June 8, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been talking with some of my friends who also happen to be home owners and we were comparing our mortgage rates. What I found out was that california mortgage rate are a bit higher than they are here in Ontario.

I’m wondering now if the mortgage rates are a little higher because the US economy isn’t doing quite as well as Canada’s? I haven’t heard any recent rates but the last time I did I think our unemployment rate was lower and well … our dollar is certainly climbing. If our dollar gets much higher it will hurt our economy.

What do you think?

Tired of Spyware? Get Spy Sweeper

June 7, 2007 by Tricia

537645401_ef78a55e40_o.jpg I absolutely hate spyware! If you’ve ever undergone a spyware attack I’ve no doubt that you don’t like it much either.

I think the worst spyware attack that I ever went through was one that caused pop ups to keep coming up continuously. I’d visit sites, ones I run, that definitely did not have pop up advertisements on them and I’d get pop up after pop up. They were sticky too. You’d close one and another would pop up and so on until it ate all the memory in my old computer and made it crash.

You can bet that when I got the computer back up and running I went hunting for a virus or spyware. I think it took me a couple of hours to discover and rid my computer of that nasty spyware.

Now there’s a new version of the award winning Spy Sweeper program that you can use to monitor and rid your computer of spyware. Spy Sweeper uses the most advanced detection in order to block and remove spyware from your computer.

One of the best features of Spy Sweeper is that it has new smart shields that block known and emerging spyware threats as you browse the internet. Also if you computer is already infected when you install Spy Sweeper you can use it’s built in advanced discovery methods to detroy malicious spyware on your PC.

If you purchase and install the Spy Sweeper program onto your computer you’ll be able to do virtually anything on the internet without worrying about encountering spyware.

Also, just like most popular anti virus programs Spy Sweeper helps you stay ahead of new spyware threats with free Defense updates.

Considering how much spyware is out there and the fact that new spyware is created pretty much daily it only makes sense to protect your computer with a great spyware detecting program like Spy Sweeper.

Need to upgrade memory

May 21, 2007 by Tricia

I’m trying to help a friend increase the memory in her Dell laptop computer. What she really needs to do is purchase some Dell Memory modules to either add on to her system or to replace the current memory that’s there.

The online store that I linked to above sells the Dell Memory that she needs, but the shipping charge to Canada is fairly high, especially with border duty, and since upgrading memory for a laptop computer is not all that cheap we’d like to purchase the memory components in Canada.

I guess it could either be an online store, or a store somewhere in Southern Ontario. We don’t care which … we just need to find out where to get the laptop memory that she needs in the very near future. Her laptop is an older model so she figures if she can upgrade the memory and make it work a bit better and faster she might be able to live with the computer for a little while longer while she saves up for a new one.

Does anyone know of a good computer memory seller in Canada?

Have you seen the new solar house markers?

May 21, 2007 by Tricia

solarhousemarker.jpg Chris and I went shopping over the weekend – mainly to stores like Home Depot and garden centers to get supplies for our garden.

I always tend to stop and look at the lighting section in places like Home Depot and stores that sell specialty lighting. I love solar lights. They look so nice in the garden, and the technology has advanced quite a bit.

The first solar products we bought 6 years ago didn’t really last that long. Well, we still have them, but we have to replace the rechargeable batteries much more often than in some of the solar products that we’ve purchased in the last three years.

One thing that I’ve noticed when looking at the various solar lighting and other products is that they now have a solar house marker. Actually I think there’s a few different brands.

Some of them are quite nice, such as the type that I’ve displayed above. Others can be set on the ground or perhaps a porch step and look more like a rock with house numbers on them.

What do you think of Solar house markers? Would you buy one?

Recover files that you’ve accidently deleted

May 18, 2007 by Tricia

file-recovery-logo.gif I almost decided to call this post “Oops I did it again”. Why? Well, I know some people who constantly have problems with their computers. I spend hours with them either online, on the phone or visiting their homes fixing their computer for them. Days or weeks later I inevitably get a call from them saying “Remember that problem I had a few days ago? Well it happened again.”.

The problems that I fix most often are due to opening email that contains a virus or downloading a program that contains a virus. If these people would get decent anti-virus protection perhaps I wouldn’t waste so much time helping them!

The viruses they get on their computer end up either deleting files that their system needs to work properly or corrupts the files. What’s worse is that sometimes the people I try to help try to fix the problem themselves and not really knowing what they are doing they end up deleting important files as well.

That’s why I’m so happy that there’s a new program called Active File Recovery. You can use the program to restore files that have been accidentally deleted or that have been deleted or altered by a virus attack. It will even help restore files that have been lost when your system crashes or that are lost when the power fails.

It’s easy and safe to use. The program is definitely a reliable and efficient data recovery tool. I’m planning on purchasing a copy of this program myself, and you can bet I’ll be urging the people who’s computers I fix regularly to get a copy of this software too!

One great thing about this software is that if you suddenly find that you can’t boot up your computer you can use the CD/DVD ISO image that comes with the Active file Recovery Enterprise Installation. You can burn a copy in order to get a bootable CD or DVD with a lightweight version of Windows Vista that will run in RAM. Once you are able to boot your computer with the disk that you made you can then use the Active file Recovery software to recovery important files that might have been deleted and that might have caused the crash.

With this program you’ll also be able to perform Partition recovery. So if you have had a partition loss or the partitions been damaged by formatting you can repair it using Active File Recovery professional. The program can also be used to recover media files such as photos, deleted files from flash memory, and data that’s been lost or formatted from memory cards.

You can download a demo version of the Active file recovery software if you’d like to check it out, or you can simply purchase one of three packages – Standard, Professional or the Enterprise package that are priced from $29.95 to $99. Corporate licenses are also available. All of these products include free updates and technical support.

I love a deal!

May 16, 2007 by Tricia

I mentioned on my other site that I was out shopping on Tuesday. I completely forgot that along with all the clothes that I ended up purchasing I also got some kids bedding. It’s my nieces birthday in a week and we wanted to get her a nice gift. She’s a real girly girl so we got her some bedding that is of course pink and extremely feminine.

She’s gonna love it.

The best thing about buying the bedding was that it was on sale! We got it for more than 50% off the regular price. I just love a bargain.

Getting organized

May 8, 2007 by Tricia

Like many of you, I have a small area of my home devoted to my computer area and I suppose office if you could call it that. In this area I spend the majority of time working directly on the computer – working on my sites, other peoples sites, checking out forums, answering email and paying bills.

I have a scanner and printer in this “office” area too. I don’t use my printer all that often, but I find it such a pain to have to go to one of the big box stores to buy printer ink, regular or photo paper. I find them much too pricey and I’d love to find a great place to get some discount office supplies. While I’m at it, I want to get some kind of file system to keep bills that need to be paid, and ones that have been paid in, as well as other important papers.

I think I could be even more productive if I was able to organize my work area better.

Speaking of which .. what does your computer area look like? Is it a cluttered mess or very tidy?
